Grandparent Fotographias
These are photos I salvaged from my grandparents. They had them stored in their old darkroom which is a little shack in the backyard. I edited the images as much as I could but some information was lost for good and I did the best with what photoshop skills I have. I am showing some of the "befores" of the photographs so you can see what bad shape they were in. Hope this motivates others to go out there and save old photographs.
Joseph Torres Series
This is a series of my father I started a month or so toward the end of my first term at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. From the beginning I took taking pictures of my dad seriously because there were no pictures of my dad prior to me shooting. I wanted these pictures to showcase the way my dad exactly looks in the present so in 50 years I could remember and see these freeze frames of time. I had no idea the impact these photographs would have on my personal growth as a photographer. I found while taking these photographs how comfortable I was with my father. Him and I seemed to shatter the taboo of a daughter seeing her father naked let alone photographing a father naked. When we were shooting in the bathroom we talked of our day as he drank his beer and shampooed his hair. While shooting my father on the cement floor in our backyard with his hair stretched out I found I was drawn to a play with focus in taking environmental portraits and liked to highlight specific details while allowing others to slowly fade to the background. Each shot played a role in my development as a photographer.
